Prevalence of Plasmid-Mediated Quinolone Resistance Genes and Molecular Typing of Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates from Blood Cultures in Milad Hospital, Tehran, Iran, Within 2018 - 2019

Background: Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) determinants are commonly characterized in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates worldwide and complicate the treatment of infections caused by this bacterium. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate prevalence PMQR molecular typing blood K. Milad hospital Tehran, Iran, within 2018 - 2019. Methods: A total 100 were tested for susceptibility quinolones using disk diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ciprofloxacin (CIP) levofloxacin (LEV) determined microdilution broth detected polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, genetic relationship between was assessed enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR. Results: rates LEV, CIP, nalidixic acid, norfloxacin be 62, 46, 29, 23%, respectively. Eighty-one resistant at least one quinolone. high-level CIP LEV (MIC > 32 mg/L) observed 15 (18.51%) 36 (44.44%) isolates, genes 71 (87.65%) isolates. oqxAB, qnrS, qnrD, qnrB, aac(6')-Ib-cr, qnrA, qepA, qnrC (87.65%), 30 (37%), 25 (30.8%), 24 (29.6%), 18 (22.2%), 17 (21%), 8 (9.9%) ERIC-PCR revealed 64 genotypes among quinolone-resistant Conclusions: high is a significant concern public health since they can contribute spread fluoroquinolone clinical heterogeneity studied indicating that emerged from different sources.
